Oooh men, there were a couple or four in the firing last week, all bravely and boldly standing guard at the flue where the first wisps of smoke got up their noses and then a bit of pleasant warmth made their toes all tingly and then slowly slowly the temperature built up until they were standing, no almost surfing in the full force of the flame that was running from the fire box into the chamber. You could hear the chorus of ‘Ooooooh’s from them as they basked in it, oh they do love the heat.
Here are some more of the pieces from the kiln, I’m really pleased with those lidded jars, the two nearest the front in the picture above which have flat lids are really pleasing, I think I will be making more of them. Strong and satisfying.
I haven’t made a cheese dome in years and look, along came two at once, very apt for the Pots and Food Festival this weekend in Derbyshire.
‘Age doesn’t matter unless you’re a cheese’. (Or a wine maybe).
Oh and don’t go being beguiled into thinking that everything that came out of my wood firing was all happy and lovely, by far the majority I am thrilled with but I think we can safely say that for a smooth, shiny, food safe surface, this test was not particularly successful.
