Another day, a bit more panic.

My kiln was cool enough to unpack this morning, mainly full of pots for orders, the sgraffito above is on a plate ordered as a wedding present, there are some beakers and a large jug to be made to go with it too.

This plate is an order from Potfest. The lady’s father was a potter before the war and some of his pots are in the National Museum in Edinburgh. The quote is by Martin Luther in 1499. She was telling me that they were taught this quote when she was a young girl at school but that it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that she heard that he also included that he would “father a son today” as well.

These are some wee harvest jugs that I have made and which are drying out oh so slowly. I was hoping to put a bisque firing on this afternoon, it’s marked in as part of my Ceramics in the City making schedule. There wasn’t enough pots dry though, in fact I don’t think any of them were dry enough, I am going insane with the rain. I’m hoping these will be fired in time for me to take them down to Devon on the train on monday morning. The big jugs in the picture below are all packed up and ready to go to Devon already, just waiting for the courier who it seems got lost trying to find me. It was his first day bless him but it means they won’t go till tomorrow now.

I’m looking forward to going to Devon next week and seeing all these harvest jugs that different people have made, and firing the kiln.

  1. I love the jug that is brown with the white trailing. When fired will that look similar to the plates you posted shortly ago-the ones with the birds walking around the rim?
