A day of decorating.

Amanda came to visit today we were testing to see whether we could get both of our work and plinths into the back of her new car for the trade show in Harrogate in a couple for weeks time. It appears that we will be able to which is fantastic as it will save us a lot of money firing a van. It was a beautiful sunny day here all day so we sat out in the sunshine and drank tea.

I make these oval oven dishes and today I thought I might try out different handles on them. They are usually pigs tail loopy handles but I was intrigued to try some pulled handles on one.

I spent the rest of the day decorating pots. It seems ages since I threw anything but I have a glut of leather hard pots waiting to be clothed. I haven’t been feeling to great for a few days, the old asthma has been playing up and it really annoys me how much it slows me down. So here are some of what I have been decorating today, chickens and tulips mainly. This big jug I just dipped the belly into slip so it has one slip circle (of sorts) on each side. I’m going to do one completely in black and then with a circle of white over the top to see what that’s like too.

glad you got something productive (and beautiful!)done this afternoon. I worked out how much more wood i needed to insulate the workshop and walked the dog!Love the new ideas for the jugs…A x (like having our own personal soap opera!)

Lovely, as ever – especially the big plate and the jug – that’s not one of those with the big lips is it?i thought the oval dish was fired/finished but it’s just wet slip – there’s something nice about a freshly slipped pot. Intrigued by the pig tail handles too – but the pulled ones look good.

    Ah – I see – pig tails – good description.Curly, straight, curly, straight…

Nope that jug isn’t of the Mick Jagger variety though the lip isn’t small either come to think of it. Should have a pick of the big lip jugs soon if I remember.

Hannah I wish I had 20% of your skill as a decorator. Lots of practice I know. I felt like a 3rd grader out there today. Maybe I’ll get the bottle to put a few up on the blog. Neat to see you waste no time trailing that black line and dots on the wet white slip.

Lovely, especially the oak. It reminds me of a wonderful jug in the V&A that changed my life(how sad am I?!)

Very !!. Doug.Hi Hannah, Looking at your work has made me think about what it must be like to be a proffessional football player for a team like Bolton, you think your doing ok, then you go and play Chelsea and come up against some of the best players in the world. In Decorating terms I’m in a pub team and you would be in the Chelsea Starting eleven every week.
